Description:  Spartan cab equipped NS 2545 idles with a Union Pacific train waiting for permission to enter Englewood Yard. Electro-Motive built this diesel for Norfolk Southern in September 1994 and it appears it hasn't seen the inside of a paint booth since assembly.

Description:  Nearly spotless PTRA 9622 and 9617 roll a short freight past the Port of Houston. These locomotives are two of 24 MP1500Ds built new for the Port of Houston Terminal Railroad Association by Motive Power Industries in 1996. Twenty years after delivery, the MP1500D is no longer built, MPI is now Wabtec, and the Houston railroad scene is down to two major players.

Title:  LDCX 2012
Description:  LDCX 2012 GP9 has the weekend off at the Louis Dreyfus Commodities facility at the Port of Houston. This old timer was delivered to Northern Pacific as NP 254 GP9 in February 1956, to Burlington Northern as BN 1877, to BNSF 1622 in August 1999 and retired in November 2000. When Louis-Dreyfus acquired this diesel it received a chopped short hood, cab air conditioning, and a fresh coat of blue paint, but retained the NP ordered winterization hatch and all weather window.

Description:  Recently rebuilt BNSF 2583 GP39-3 and BNSF 2838 GP39-2 wearing a battered coat of H1 lead a transfer towards Tower 87. BNSF 2583 GP39-3 was originally delivered to Santa Fe as ATSF 3524 GP38 in June 1970 and was released as BNSF 2583 GP39-3 on April 20, 2016. BNSF 2838 was delivered to Santa Fe as ATSF 3633 GP39-2 in June 1970 and was repainted as BNSF 2838 on December 4, 1997.

Description:  A freshly repainted BNSF 2887 GP39M idles with rebuilt and repainted BNSF 2567 GP39-3, a Genset and a faded Warbonnet congregate at the BNSF Galveston Yard. BNSF 2887 GP39M was originally delivered to Cotton Belt as SSW 781 in July 1965, to SSW 6681, then retired and rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen for Burlington Northern as BN 2887 GP39M. After the BN-SF merger, this unit was patched as BNSF 2887 then repainted in H3 paint ten years after. BNSF 2567 GP39-3 was delivered to Penn Central as PC 7861 GP38 in June 1970, to Conrail as CR 7861 then retired on May 15, 1985, and sold to Burlington Northern as BN 2184 GP38, On February 19, 2016, it rolled out of the Mount Vernon, IL shop as BNSF 2567 GP39-3 in a fresh coat of H3 paint.

Description:  Parked at the Texas International Terminals is an SW1500 and SD40-2 both sporting a RailTex-like red and gray. The numberless SW1500 was delivered to Southern Pacific as SP 2611 SW1500 in December 1971, to UP 1179 on March 25, 1997, to UPY 1179 on August 19, 2003, and retired on November 23, 2010. The faded rear number board on the SD40-2 still displays 6931 which gives away its identity as a former Chicago and North Western diesel with TXXX on the cab, an invalid AAR reporting mark. Note the former Amtrak MHC boxcars parked in the background.

Besides working for Dallas, Garland, and Northeastern, both were remanufactured from Railpower kits at Juniata using the frames of GP40s delivered to Baltimore and Ohio. DGNO 146 was delivered as B&O 3722 GP40 in March 1969 and DGNO 145 was delivered as B&O 3714 GP40 in February 1969.

Description:  A pair of KCS GP40-3s roll light headed for home at the newly built Wylie Intermodal Ramp. KCS 2822 GP40-3 was originally built for Western Pacific as WP 3514 GP40 in April 1967, becoming UP 663 on April 18, 1984, KCS 2810 was built as WP 3506 GP40 in May 1966, becoming UP 655 on December 23, 1985. Both were retired on April 5, 1993, upon lease expiration and rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen for Kansas City Southern. WP 3514/UP 663 emerged from the M-K Boise shop as KCS 4777 GP40-2 on January 13, 1994, and was later renumbered KCS 2822 after Dash 3 upgrades. WP 3506/UP 655 emerged from the M-K Boise as KCS 4769 GP40-2 on December 10, 1993, and was later renumbered 2810 after Dash 3 upgrades.
