UPY 899
Title:  UPY 899
Description:  Both locomotives in this photo ride on the same size frame but that is where the similarities end. The lead locomotive was delivered as UP SD40-2 3613 in September 1979, retired then rebuilt by RailPower and returned as a six axle Genset RP20CD. The trailing unit was built for CNW as SD38-2 6651 in January 1975 and after the UP merger assigned to hump service. Although the EMD now wears UP yellow and grey, a scar on the nose remains where the CNW bell was mounted.

UPY 3007
Title:  UPY 3007
Description:  UPY 3007 SD40N and UPY 3008 S3-2B look great wearing a fresh coat of paint after rebuilding. UPY 3007 SD40N was delivered to Union Pacific as UP 3232 SD40-2 and UPY 3008 S3-2B to Chicago & North Western as CNW 6657 SD38-2. Both are now assigned to Union Pacific's Davidson Yard for hump and yard duties. Note the fuel tank differences between the SD40N and S3-2B.

UPY 3008
Title:  UPY 3008
Description:  UPY 3008 S3-2B shows off a spotless coat of fresh paint while pushing a cut of cars at Davidson Yard. Electro Motive delivered this slug to Chicago & North Western as CNW 6657 SD38-2, part of a ten unit order arriving January 1975 for hump service at Proviso Yard in Chicago. After the UP-CNW merger this unit would have become UP 2813 but skipped this number series and instead became UPY 813 on April 7, 2001. Perhaps lack of dynamic brakes doomed this diesel, but on June 10, 2015 this unit emerged from the shop as UPY 3008 S3-2B paired to UP 3007 SD40N. Note this slug still retains two cooling fans at the rear similar to an SD38/SD38-2 but only has head and ditch lights on what is traditionally the front which suggests only one end of the slug can receive power from the mother unit.

KCS 4079
Title:  KCS 4079
Description:  Built in October 1949 by EMD as CNW TR2B 2000B, this diesel was rebuilt as engineless slug BU4. After retirement by CNW this slug was sold to KCS and paired with an SW1500. Reportedly this slug is parked in a dead line at the KCS yard in Shreveport very unlikely to return to service.
