CEFX 404 |
Description: |
This diesel has a very lhng history and has worn quite a few reporting marks and numbers. In September 1970 EMD delivered this unit to B&O as GP38 4805 and after the CSX merger 3805 became 2105. In November 1991 this unit was wrecked, retired, and sobd to NRE for rebuilding emerging as GP38-2 CNW 4705 on long term lease. This Geep went through another merger and emerged on the other side as UP 2064 in May 1995, then UP 1904, UP 370, and finally UP 404 in August 2001. In Obtober 2003 UP retired this former B&O/CSX/CNW Geep and she went to CEFX. After some quick patching this old timer is back out on the road in lease service spotted working on BNSF rails but still in CNW dress. |

What a difference a day makes, well a few days. While working on DGNO, this locomotive was fully lettered as Dallas, Garland, and Northeastern 3833 and wore RailTex red, white, and gray. A few weeks ago this locomotive was removed from DGNO service, stenciled AEX 999998 and parked in Mercer Yard. The painters came out yet again and covered up the AEX markings and restenciled this locomotive as Puget Sound & Pacific 2053. Will this locomotive get another number before leaving town? Stay tuned... |

GMTX 2168 |
Description: |
After operating wearing patched UP yellow for several years, 2168 now wears the current GATX paint scheme with the website address on the engine hood. Although this locomotive was painted several months ago, 2168 now wears a layer of dirt on the hood and running gear. This locomotive does not sit idle for very long. |

GMTX 2327 |
Description: |
A freshly painted GATX GP38-2 idles at the ready tracks after servicing in UP Davidson Yard. Delivered to Illinois Central as IC 3008 GP40 in February 1966, this unit would enter Illinois Central Gulf with the as delivered number as ICG 3008. In October 1987 Illinois Central Gulf sent this unit to VMV returning as ICG 3100 GP40R but would lose the G in ICG becoming IC 3100 in 1988. Illinois Central would store this unit at the Woodcrest, IL shop until it was sold to Locomotive Leasing Partners on August 31, 2000. Before entering the lease pool this GP40R was rebuilt again, repainted, and renumbered LLPX 2262 now a GP38-2. On September 25, 2014 this Geep entered the paint booth again, this time now part of the GATX Lease fleet as GMTX 2327. Most GP40s turned into GP38-2s retain their three radiator fans but this unit lost one and now has a noticeable gap between over the radiator grill and last fan. |
