SP 7436 SD45R idles with an SW1500 at Miller Yard on an overcast autumn afternoon. Delivered to Southern Pacific as SP 8819 SD45 in August 1966, this big EMD would be rebuilt by SP shop forces at Sacramento and released as SP 7436 SD45R on May 27,1982. This unit would retain the same number until being retired by Union Pacific on June 30, 1999. I was unable to locate any information on the fate of this locomotive after it departed the UP roster so I assume it was scrapped. |

This locomotive would be rebuilt again moving to Brasil and becoming MRS Logistica SD40-3MP 5311. |

After a long career on Espee this unit was released by UP after lease expiration then purchased by CIT Group entering CEFX lease pool and currently works on the DGNO unit rock train service. Other than the CEFX stencil on the cab, an SP-less nose, and a renumbering from 7486 to 9486 this big six axle EMD looks great in SP grey and red. Hopefully this diesel will wear this scheme for years to come. On August 1, 2008, DGNO purchased this unit but so far has not repainted or relettered this unit. |
