Description:  Delivered in January 1972 to Missouri Pacific as GP38-2 881, this unit lost it's Jenks blue dip job and cab strobe light upon entering the UP fleet. Later this diesel wore MP 2032 to UP 2032 and is now 312. While UP purged itself of nearly all the dynamic brakeless SD40/SD40-2 fleet, the GP38-2s remained.

Description:  Delivered as Missouri Pacific 919 in October 1972 then renumbered to 2070 in September 1974. In January 1984 this diesel became UP 2396 then retired an sold to Helm four years later. Helm renumbered this diesel to 2070 then rebuilt and returned this diesel to UP as 1825 in July 1990 and UP renumbered her to 325 in 2004. Amazingly, this is the first photo of this diesel on this site. Note the UP cabside designation of GP38-2L.

Description:  Several days ago I was talking with a friend who was curious about railfanning. I mentioned how I've always wanted to catch a locomotive with fire blowing out of the stack. The very first photo of the day, BAM! Fire! Yes, I know it's blurry and normally this photo would go to the junk bin but I still find it interesting enough to be uploaded here. UP 9947 has a sick tubocharger while building a train in Davidson Yard. All I have to do now is wait another 15 years and hopefully my next fire photo will be in better focus.
