From the frozen north to the sweltering south, this diesel was designed to keep winter out and the interior warm. Unfortunately for crews assigned this diesel in the summer, all that insulation and no cab air conditioning is the makings of a very unpleasant workday. I still like these diesels, those trucks and paint scheme is great. |

A Union Pacific conductor gives a wave from the cab of his Canadian National C40-8M leading a manifest train moving through West Dallas. Although dirty, C40-8 locomotives wrapped in a carbody are a rare sight in Texas. Especially ones riding on six axle Dofasco trucks from retired MLW locomotives. The CN North America paint scheme is the icing on the cake, if only I could find one in HO scale and not in brass. Note the stencil on the track "UPRR MAIN TRK 2". |

A dirty Canadian National C40-8M leads a Union Pacific manifest train speeds through West Dallas heading for Fort Worth. Note the cable and wheel brake parking brake arrangement on the rear Dofasco truck. It would seem succeptable to icing in the frozen Canadian winters but I live in Texas so I'm certainly no expert. |
