Description:  This locomotive was delivered to Southern Pacific in March 1980 as GP40-2 7673. Upon the UP-SP merger, this diesel was repainted in full UP press and renumbered 5324. During UP's motive power renumbering this EMD got a new number and a second coat of paint with the newer zig-zag scheme. No amount of Armor Yellow can hide the Espee light scar on the nose and rear hood.

Description:  A pretty clean UP 1458 GP40-2 poses for a photo between switch moves in South Dallas. Delivered to St. Louis Southwestern, better known as Cotton Belt, as SSW 7602 GP40 in February 1966, Southern Pacific rebuilt this unit as SSW 7961 GP40R in 1981 and equipped it to work with SP road slugs. On July 20, 2001, it was patched as UP 1458 working in gray and red paint until September 15, 2005, when it was involved in a collision at Shepard, TX. It was reported scrapped on site but it appears to have been repaired, repainted, and returned to service wearing the same number.

Description:  After swapping cars at the South Dallas OxyChem plant, UP 1458 GP40-2 uses the BNSF main to return to home rails then Miller Yard. Electro-Motive built this locomotive for St. Louis Southwestern as SSW 7602 GP40 in February 1966, then was rebuilt as SSW 7961 GP40R in 1981 and paired to work with SP road slugs. On July 20, 2001, it was patched as UP 1458 and reclassified a GP40-2 by Union Pacific. Four years later while in a siding at Shepard, TX it was involved in a collision and reportedly scrapped on site but it apparently was rebuilt and returned to service in full UP dress.

Description:  UP 3002 was delivered to Western Pacific as GP40-2 3545 in July 1979, becoming UP 900 on May 26, 1985, MP 900 on June 11, 1985, then back to UP 900 on June 26, 1987. In 1990 this unit was sent to M-K for rebuilding as a mother-slug set emerging as UP 3002 on December 20 and after seperating the slug this unit was renumbered UP 1535 in February 2002. The slug was built for KCS as GP30 108 and chopped down into a slug also by MK for UP road service. Note these units still carry cab air conditioners, a WP ordered feature almost always removed by UP.
