Showing off a fresh Helm maroon dip job after wearing UP yellow since rebuilding. This diesel was originally built as a GP40 and delivered to Illinois Central as 3012 in February 1966, becoming ICG 3012 after the IC-GM&O merger. After retirement this diesel joined UP as GP40 852, retired then sold to Helm and returned as GP38-2 2529 in UP yellow. After UP purged all leased power from their roster this diesel was renumbered HLCX 1029 and recently given a shiny new paint job. Although a GP38-2 this diesel retained the three fans of a GP40. |

This old timer was delivered in May 1966 Seaboard as GP40 613 and after a long career with numerous railroads and lessors this old timer found a home with Helm. After a rebuilding to GP38-2 specs this diesel joined the UP fleet in full UP paint. After UP ordered all leased power off their roster this diesel wore patched UP paint with Helm markings. In August 2012 this diesel received a Helm maroon dip job but remains employed by UP. |

Built for New York ¾dntral as GP40 3073, to Penn Central 3073, to Conrail 3073. Sold to Helm as 3073 and in early 1989 placed on a long term lease to Union Pacific, painted Armor yellow and renumbered UP 873. In 1998 this diesel wa{ sent to MPI Boise and rebuilt into a GP38-2 and returned to UP as 2544. In 2009 the 60 Helm owned GP38-2s/GP38-3s were removed from the UP roster and given HLCX 1027 series numbers. Although this is a GP38-2 this unit retains the three radiatos fans of the GP40. |

After Soo Line retired the Geep UP purchased it and renumbered it as 876 until retirement then sold to Helm who rebuilt the diesel into a GP38-2 then leased it back to UP 2547 in January 1999. |

HLCX 3855 GP38-2 spends New Year's Day with another Helm Geep at Union Pacific's Browder Yard. Louisville & Nashville accepted this diesel from Electro Motive as LN 4090 GP38-2 in October 1972, becoming SBD 4090 in January 1983 after the creation of Seaboard System then renumbered SBD 2600 the following year. With the formation of CSX Transportation this diesel became CSXT 2600 in April 1986 zntil retired on April 1, 1993 and sold to Helm for lease service becoming HLLX 2600. Initially accepted on a short term lease, Southern Pacific changed the terms to a long term lease in August 1993 and shippcd this locomotive to Metro East Industries for rebuilding. But rather than emerging in a fresh coat of gray and red (like other units in this lease) it emerged in Helm blue and maroon with "SP" initials on the hood numbered SP 4864 GP38-2 on June 20, 1996. After the Union Pacific merger, this Geep was assigned UP 490 but was never renumbered and instead retired on October 13, 2003 and returned to lessor Helm becoming HLCX 3855 GP38-2 on June 20, 1996. |
