A rebuilt SD40M-2 celebrating a year of service with Southern Pacific idles in SP's Broadway Yard in South Fort Worth. This locomotive was originally delivered to Chicago & Northwestern as SD45 968 in February 1968 and served CNW until retirement which was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen into an SD40M-2 and released on July 1994. During the rebuild this locomotive lost the distinctive flared radiators of the SD45 and had cab airconditioning installed per SP specifications. After the UP merger this locomotive served the new owner until being placed into storage around 2010 and can be seen parked in Sterling, IL in full SP paint. |
