While moving through SP Junction with a California-bound intermodal, UP 8742 SD70ACe suffered two seized traction motors and was dragged to CZ Yard to await repair. Electro-Motive built this locomotive for Union Pacific at the Bombardier Sahagun, MX plant and delivered to UP in May 2012. On October 24, 2015, around 3:30AM UP 8742 was trailing UP 8337 on a cement train when it was derailed by flood waters. Both locomotives ended up on their sides along with 25 loaded hoppers partially submerged. Seems this diesel hasn't had much luck lately. |
